There are various interpretations of the Song of Solomon. I am convinced that it is a love poem between two lovers. I mean, hear these statements: “Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! For your love is better than wine . . . I compare you, my love, to a mare among Pharaoh’s chariots. . . . Behold, you are beautiful, my love; behold, you are beautiful; your eyes are doves. Behold, you are beautiful, my beloved, truly delightful. . . . The voice of my beloved! . . . My beloved speaks and says to me: ‘Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away’ . . . My beloved is mine, and I am his.” And the song continues as it depicts a great love between a man and a woman. However, as great as their love was, how much greater is the love of our Savior toward us! In fact, he has loved us so greatly that the writers can write: “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1). “He laid down his life for us” (1 John 3:16).
I stand amazed in the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene
And wonder how He could love me
A sinner condemned, unclean
How marvelous, how wonderful
And my song will ever be
How marvelous, how wonderful
Is my Saviour’s love for me. --Charles H. Gabriel (1905)
