“And the Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying, ‘Let the people of Israel keep the Passover at its appointed time’” (9:1-2). The Passover, the various festivals, Joshua’s twelves stones in the Jordan River, the Lord’s Supper . . . God is always giving his people special ways of remembering him and his faithfulness. With Israel, we remember and give thanks for his great deliverance!
Awake, my soul, in joyful lays,
And sing the great Redeemer's praise;
He justly claims a song from me-
His lovingkindness, O how free!
Lovingkindness, lovingkindness,
His lovingkindness, O how free!
He saw me ruined in the fall,
Yet loved me, notwithstanding all;
He saved me from my lost estate-
His lovingkindness, O how great!
Lovingkindness, lovingkindness,
His lovingkindness, O how great!
When trouble, like a gloomy cloud,
Has gathered thick and thundered loud,
He near my soul has always stood-
His lovingkindness, O how good!
Lovingkindness, lovingkindness,
His lovingkindness, O how good! --Samuel Medley (1782)
