Jude reminds his readers and us that, in a world where false teachers and opposition to the truth abound, we are “to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints” (1:3). The apostle Paul wrote about this truth: “I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek” (Romans 1:16). Hear Jesus: “Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free’” (John 8:31-32). Jesus said to his disciples, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life” (John 6:63). Life, abundant and eternal, found only in Jesus and the gospel! Only those who hear this truth of the gospel and believe it, only to them can Jude write, “To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you” (1:1-2). The Bible is so full of godly instruction and encouragement! Our children sing:
The B-I-B-L-E,
Yes, that’s the book for me,
I stand alone on the Word of God,
The B-I-B-L-E.
The B-I-B-L-E,
Yes, that’s the book for me,
I stand alone on the Word of God,
The B-I-B-L-E.
