Here we read about Solomon’s building and dedication of the Temple. Over and over through this section you will hear of promises made and promises kept. God Promised to bring his people out of Egypt and he has. He promised that he would not abandon Israel and he hasn’t. He promised to David that He would rule over Israel and he did. He promised that one of David’s Sons would be on David’s throne and build the temple for the Lord and Solomon did both. Our God is not only a promise maker but a promise Keeper. This marks the high point of Old Testament. From here on out things will grow progressively worst as people turned from the Lord to idols. They do not remain Faithful to God. But even in their unfaithfulness God still remained Faithful. For us when we look to see God’s faithfulness, we don’t look to a gold covered temple but to a bloody cross and an empty grave. As Paul will say later say about Jesus “For all the promises of God find their Yes in him” (2 Cor 1:20 ESV). Jesus was the true son of David who built God’s temple not out of slabs of granite or marble but out of living stones (Christians). The Reign of Jesus will never end in fact. he will reign over not just all of Israel, not just the whole earth but over the entire cosmos. He fulfilled God’s promise to Abraham that all the nations of the earth would be blessed through him. And He fulfilled the Promise to crush the Serpent's Head. May we take time today and remember like Solomon did the faithfulness of God to fulfill his promises but look to Jesus as the yes and Amen of All God’s promises.
